Former University of Florida head coach Urban Meyer has signed on with ESPN to call Big-10 football games for the sports network, how much closer is he now to becoming the Ohio State University head coach in 2012? It’s believed that Meyer’s broadcasting career will start September 3rd when Ohio State takes on Akron. How convenient.
Meyer will have an entire college football season to scout the Big-10 and prepare himself for which will be the likely announcement after the 2011 season that he will be taking over as head coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
It remains to be seen exactly what the punishment for the Buckeyes will be from the NCAA but the hiring of Meyer makes perfect sense for the university. Meyer has been outspoken about the integrity for the game at the college level. Meyer was after all, criticized for letting QB Cam Newton, “get away” from the Gators admidst allegations surrounding Newton. And, Meyer was known for his accountability measures he put in place at the University of Florida and Utah.
Urban Meyer could be just what the embattled university needs in order to “fix” their program. In the meantime, he’ll get paid to scout the conference he’ll likely be coaching in next season.
