The San Diego Chargers announced today that they have signed linebacker Bront Bird from the practice squad Monday and released receiver Bryan Walters.

The 6-4, 250-pound Bird is a college rookie free agent from Texas Tech. He spent the first seven weeks of the season on the practice squad. Bird played mostly special teams during preseason, getting plenty of reps with the first-team kick coverage units during training camp. He will wear No. 97.

Walters began the season as the team’s punt returner and also caught three passes for 27 yards, but had been inactive for San Diego’s last three games.
