The Kansas City Chiefs were able to claim QB Kyle Orton off the waiver wire this week after being released by the Denver Broncos early in the week, but the franchise insists that Orton will not be the starter this week as they host the Pittsburgh Steelers. It is believed that Tyler Palko will receive his second straight start for the Chiefs.
Kansas City is without Matt Cassel, done for the season after undergoing season ending hand surgery. Head Coach Todd Haley might be fighting for his job down the stretch in the remaining six games, heading into the final season of his contract and failing to follow up on the Chiefs’ performance last season.
Chiefs head coach Todd Haley told the media that he will start Palko again this week, but left the door open for Orton. “Tyler is the starter, but the guy that gives us the best chance to win will always play at any position”, Haley told the media.
Tyler Palko made his first career start last week against the New England Patriots on Monday night throwing three interceptions and no touchdowns. Kyle Orton has appeared in 67 career games, throwing for 13,753 yards and 79 touchdowns.
