Since everyone can’t stop talking about Brett Favre and an NFL comeback, injured Chicago Bears Quarterback Jay Cutler decided he would weigh in on the subject, and prove his secret identity as Captain Obvious when discussing the biggest diva in NFL history.
“Brett probably would have came back, but I’m sure it would have to be a very, very high number money-wise, and it would have been interesting.”
Really, Jay? Really?
That is akin to stating that Bo Jackson would have probably continued his brief, but illustrious NFL career had he been blessed with a better hip.
Yes, Cutler, we all know that Favre has a price. Hell, everybody has a price, but Favre’s just happens to be higher than most people’s for some reason unbeknownst st to me. Why any team would even consider contacting Favre about an NFL comeback is beyond me.
I swear that since Favre is such a media whore, he probably comes up with half of these rumors himself. We all know how he can’t stay out of the spotlight for more than a couple of weeks at a time, so this could be his way or ensuring that we all talk about him.
An easy way would be to ignore all of the Favre to the NFL talk, but that isn’t American media. When there is no news, you simply have to make up something.
It is just like when the television channels give a teaser about what is coming up on the eleven o’clock news, by coming out with some ridiculous statement or question, such as “Could you television set kill you?”
And then you hear about the guy who had a 55 inch big screen fall out the window and onto his head, leading to an untimely death. It is all about how you say things and what you are talking about. It is all about creating buzz.
That is what Favre is, just buzz. He hasn’t been good for years. he hasn’t been a starting quarterback for years. He had one good season in his final few years, yet he is still all we talk about.
Favre is buzzworthy. He is the retired version of Tim Tebow. A player who elicits such strong emotions and feelings one way or the other, that everyone can’t help but talk about them.
You can argue that, but you’d be wrong. Whether you love a player or dispsie them, you will continue to read up on them. Admit it, because it is true.
I’m no hypocrite. I’m not saying I’m above any of that talk. I’ll admit the fact that I Can’t stand Favre. Haven’t for most of my entire life. But I’ll continue to write about him. One, because it is always buzzworthy, and also because it is often more enjoyable to write a negative article about someone you can’t stand than it is to write a fluff article about your favorite player.
But while we will always want to talk about Favre, in one way or another, he is not coming back to the Bears, or any other team for that matter. Regardless of how he changes his mind every day, like how he first reportedly stated that he would listen if the Bears approached him, but the next day said that he had absolutely no interest in coming out of retirement.
You see, if he said that one the first day, the story would be over.
But good ‘ol Buzzy, err, Brett, found a way to get himself in the headlines for twice as many days.
Thank you, Brett.
You continue to give me reasons to hate you, but also ideas to write about all the time.
