With wide receivers Marques Colston and Robert Meachem heading towards the free agent market, the New Orleans Saints are scrambling to fill impending vacancies in their roster. Veteran WR Randy Moss is reportedly going to work out for the Saints this afternoon. Several weeks ago, Randy Moss took to YouStream, posting a video expressing his intent to return to the NFL in 2012.

There is the possibility that the New Orleans Saints might be able to sign Robert Meachem to a long-term contract once the free agency period begins, but Marques Colston would likely be surrendering millions of dollars if he took a hometown discount to return to the Saints. Colston will garner a large contract on the open market with some many NFL clubs in need of an elite wide receiver.

If, and it’s a big if, Randy Moss is dedicated to playing next season, the potential signing of Moss by the Saints wouldn’t be that big of a risk. Moss can likely be signed for a low contract, in the neighborhood of what Plaxico Burress played for last season, $3 million.

The loss of both Colston and Meachem would leave the Saints roster exceptionally thin at the receiver position with only Devery Henderson and Lance Moore with significant NFL experience.
