South Florida is known for it’s hanging chads, and it appears that one hanging chad could be heading to New York, QB Chad Henne. There seems to be a pipeline of chads going back and forth between Miami and New York. Former Miami Dolphins QB Chad Pennington is now back with the New York Jets, as a coach/mentor for QB Mark Sanchez.
According to ESPN New York’s Rich Cimini, another Miami Dolphins quarterback is on the New York Jets radar, Chad Henne. The Miami Dolphins have openly stated that they are going to allow Henne to test the free agency market as they prepare for 2012 with QB Matt Moore on the current roster. Miami has been one of the teams repeatedly linked to rumors surrounding Peyton Manning.
Acquyiring Chad Henne is free agency would reunite Henne with his former head coach, Tony Sparano. Sparano was hired this offseason by the Jets to fill the role of offensive coordinator. Sparano was a large supporter of Henne’s when he was the head coach for the Dolphins.
Ironically, the Jets are also one of the teams currently immersed in the rumors surrounding Peyton Manning and where he might land in 2012.Whether or not the Jets are interested in Manning, New York must make an upgrade at the backup quarterback position. Mark Brunell, who will turn 42 at the start of next season, is currently a free agent and should not be considered a viable option any longer. Second-year quarterback Greg McElroy is currently listed on the Jets roster as Sanchez’s backup. You have to wonder just how long McElroy will remain with the Jets after his comments ignited the firestorm this offseason regarding the state of the Jets locker room.
