Free agent QB Vince Young is looking for work, questions is, will he find a team to play for in the 2012 NFL season? The Philadelphia Eagles signed Vince Young to a one-year contract to backup Michael Vick last season but after a turnover plagued season, the Eagles decided to move on in another direction. Philadelphia signed veteran journeyman Trent Edwards and has Mike Kafka on the roster heading into the 2012 season.

Several NFL teams have already signed veteran quarterbacks during the first week of free agency. Young, who turns 29 in May, has six seasons of experience in the NFL but has not drawn any interest in this year’s free agency market. Possible employment opportunities are quickly drying up for Young. Starting quarterback opportunities could be determined by the outcome of the Peyton Manning sweepstakes but even backup positions appear limited for the  University of Texas product.

There has been a percentage of the Houston Texans fanbase which has been enamored with Young for the past few seasons but the Texans are mired in salary cap issues. Houston recently released Matt Leinart and has second-year QB T.J. Yates, a player which gained valuable experience last season, leading the Texans to their franchise-first playoff game win.

One team currently in the Peyton Manning discussions could be a possible landing spot for Vince Young. If the Denver Broncos miss out on Manning, the team is going to need to bring in a backup for QB Tim Tebow. If Denver heads into the 2012 season with Tebow, the addition of Young as a backup might not be a terrible decision. Not many quarterbacks would want to enter the environment in Denver with the Tebow situation, but Young is seeing his options evaporate. If Denver does land Manning, Young might have to wait until the start of training camp in order to find a job in 2012, joining a team after a quarterback suffers an injury.

In his career, Young has thrown for 8,964 yards with 46 touchdowns and 51 interceptions. He has proven to be a very mobile quarterback in his career, rushing for 1,459 yards and 12 touchdowns.
