It was reported yesterday that former Tampa Bay Buccaneers DT Warren Sapp has filed bankruptcy. This news comes on the heels of the controversy he created last month by calling former New Orleans Saints TE Jeremy Shockey the “snitch” in the Bounty-gate scandal surrounding the team. This morning, Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe suggests that Sapp’s time as a commentator on the NFL Network is over.
Sapp is under contract by the league owned NFL Network through August of 2012. Bedard claims that two sources have confirmed that the network will not renew his contract in August. In fact, Sapp’s presence on the network has been limited in recent weeks after the controversy he created by fingering Shockey in the Bounty-gate scandal. According to Bedard’s source, the network has not scheduled any appearances by Sapp on the network at anytime in the near future.
Sapp is currently paid $540,000 dollars annually by the NFL Network.
