The Oakland Raiders finally have added a backup quarterback. On Tuesday, the Raiders announced that they have finally signed veteran QB Matt Leinart. Leinart has been long rumored to be joining the Raiders and the rumors intensified over the weekend. The move now gives the Oakland Raiders two former USC Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks on their roster.

It is believed that Leinart will assume the backup role on the Raiders roster behind QB Carson Palmer and ahead of second-year QB Terrelle Pryor. Despite expectations, Leinart has struggled in the NFL as a starting quarterback. He eventually was displaced as the starter in Arizona by veteran QB Kurt Warner.

This signing now gives the Oakland Raiders their tenth Heisman Trophy winner to join the team in franchise history. Leinart joins Billy Cannon, Jim Plunkett, Marcus Allen, Bo Jackson, Tim Brown, Andre Ware, Desmond Howard, Rashaan Salaam, Charles Woodson and Carson Palmer to the distinguished list.
