Despite expressing a desire to play for the Carolina Panthers, sources claim the franchise is not interested in having WR Plaxico Burress join the team. A source speaking to www.newsobserver.com claimed the team has no plans for Plaxico Burress. He, along with Braylon Edwards and Terrell Owens are currently receing little interest from NFL clubs.

Teams are wrapping up the last of the offseason minicamps this week and are preparing to open training camps late next month. Barring injuries, Burress along with his fellow veteran receivers will likely have to wait until camps open in order to try to generate any interest.

Burress told WFNZ that he would like to join the Panthers organization because his family lives in the Carolinas but he also would relish the idea of being on the field with Cam Newton and veteran receiver Steve Smith.

“Not just that, but playing with Cam, who I think is one of the top five quarterbacks in all of football, and as long as I can remember Steve Smith has been one of my favorites. I think it’s a great situation,” said Burress.

Burress, 34, tied WR Santonio Holmes on the New York Jets with eight touchdowns last season but was third on the Jets roster last season in receiving yards with 612.
