New York Jets are ruling out WR Braylon Edwards

For much of this NFL offseason, speculation has surrounded WR Braylon Edwards and the possibility of his return to the New York Jets. Edwards departed the Jets as a free agent after the 2010 season and joined the San Francisco 49ers  last season. His productivity on the field was hampered by a lingering knee injury last season as he recorded just 15 receptions for 181 yards.The New York Post is reporting this morning that the Jets have abandoned the idea of bringing Edwards back for 2012.

Edwards joined the Jets via a trade with the Cleveland Browns and the veteran receiver posted a successful 2009 season with New York. The Jets had a decision to make last season with both Edwards and fellow receiver Santonio Holmes both reaching free agency in the same year. New York opted to retain Santonio Holmes, inking him to a five-year deal worth $45 million dollars.

There has been speculation that the Jets would try to acquire another veteran receiver to add to their youthful corps. Outside of Chaz Schilens and Holmes, no pass catcher on the Jets roster has over four years of experience and 10 receivers on the current roster have two or fewer years of NFL experience.

Edwards joins Plaxico Burress and Terrell Owens as veteran free agent receivers which are garnering little to no interest around the league.
