The usually mild-mannered and extremely polite Tim Tebow recently took a little shot at his former Denver Broncos teammate, Brady Quinn, now a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. Tebow, speaking recently to a group of Gator backers, took a jab at Quinn regarding his bragging about Notre Dame University.
“So many guys come up to me and say, ‘What’s it like to be at the University of Florida? What’s it like to be a Gator?’ The first thing I think of is, ‘Wouldn’t you like to know,.. I had a teammate at Denver who played the same position as me and he went to the University of Notre Dame. He would brag about his university, how great it was. Most of us in the locker room were like, ‘C’mon, we all had opportunities. We chose not to go there.’ … But he talked so much about his university that it became easy. I’d say, ‘Your whole team had one guy who ran under a 5.0 40. Our kicker ran under 5.0.’”
The quote was first attributed by the Gatorzone.com website. Perhaps what is said at the annual summer board meetings of the Gator boosters is supposed to remain in the confines of the summer meetings as the link to the site has been taken down.
Why take it down? I don’t think this does anything to tarnish the brand which is Tim Tebow. I believe it humanizes him. It’s some friendly banter between players from proud universities. And, turnabout is fair play. Quinn said in an interview with GQ magazine, while the pair were members of the Denver Broncos that if he (Quinn) was given the opportunity to be the starting quarterback, he’d be praying with his teammates in the locker room after the game, not in front of a camera.
