In what has been a rapidly developing situation this morning, a shooting occurred last night at an Auburn, Alabama apartment complex. The shooting leaves three persons dead and several wounded. Two of the persons which were slain on scene were former Auburn University football players.
Edward Christian and Ladairous Phillips were two of the victims killed in the senseless act of violence. Current football player Eric Mack was wounded in the incident and is reportedly still in the hospital receiving treatment. According to WMBFnews.com, two other individuals were wounded in the shooting as well. Xavier Moss was treated and released while John Robertson is reported as “fighting for his life”.
Local law enforcement officials have identified a suspect in the shooting and an active manhunt is underway for Desmonte Leonard, being sought with three capital murder warrants for his arrest.
Phillips was signed as a freshman, but had been redshirted. He struggled to hit the field in 2011 and had planned to transfer to Jacksonville State. Phillips, a fullback, was 20.
Auburn Tigers head coach Gene Chizik issued a statement earlier this afternoon. “I am devasted by the passing of three young men, including two that I personally knew in Ed Christian and Ladarious Phillips and my heart goes out to their family.”
