The New Orleans Saints did what they had to do this offseason this afternoon and signed QB Drew Brees to a new contract. The Saints have had one of the most chaotic offseasons that any franchise has undergone this year. Bounty-gate has surrounded the Saints organization and while the Saints owner, Tom Benson put hundreds of millions of the table to purchase a NBA franchise, the Saints record setting Saints QB was swinging in the tropical breeze which wafts in from Gulf of Mexico.

This afternoon, it was announced that Drew Brees is going to be a member of the New Orleans Saints for an agreed, 5 year period in a contract worth $100 million dollars. Multiple sources are now reporting that Brees will receive $37 million in guaranteed money for next season.

That’s fantastic for Mr. Brees. He is a phenomenal quarterback and an even better person in the community of New Orleans. As a disclaimer, I am a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, but I have the utmost respect for Drew Brees. The New Orleans Saints had to pull the trigger on this deal as the team did not need any more distractions heading into 2012.Perhaps after signing the new contract, Mr. Brees could ink a few more Jimmy John’s franchises. Or perhaps, purchase the company outright.

Brees will earn $2.5 million dollars per game in 2012. Based on 60 offensive snaps per game, which is an average per game, Drew Brees could earn slightly over $40,000 dollars per snap in 2012. Can I come in for a three and out series?
