Former Buffalo Bills QB Jim Kelly has been openly optimistic of his former team’s chances of advancing into the playoffs this season and took the opportunity recently to stir the pot with the quarterback situation of divisional opponent, the New York Jets. The New York Jets acquired former Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow this season, opening the team to speculation about the future of QB Mark Sanchez.
As a guest on NFL Network’s Total Access, Kelly openly lobbied for chaos in the Jets locker room. “As a Buffalo Bills fan, I hope there’s so much turmoil during training camp, I hope Tebow plays great, he pushes Sanchez, and all of a sudden the locker room is coming apart. They open at the Meadowlands, so this could be very exciting.”
Kelly continued to tell host Andrew Siciliano that he would hate to be in Mark Sanchez’s shoes, especially after throwing interceptions or creating a turnover claiming that the Jets faithful will start demanding Tebow take the field instead of Sanchez.
“I really, to be honest with you, don’t know what they were thinking. Me, if I was a general manager or a president or the owner of a team, I would not have done that,” Kelly added.
Kelly is not the only person which has questioned the Jets move this offseason. The combination of Sanchez, a quarterback already under intense scrutiny by the Jets fans and Tebow, has the potential of becoming a very explosive situation this year. The Jets have worked Tebow out as the team’s Wildcat quarterback and as a member of the punt coverage team. However, if things go south for Sanchez early on, I believe it could get ugly as Kelly suggests. It will definitely be one of the more interesting storylines to follow this season.
