There are some changes coming to the top rated NFL Sunday morning pre-game show on FOX. If you were a fan of Frank Caliendo and his impersonations, you are going to be out of luck. After a nine year run on the show, the producers have decided to take the show in a different direction this season. Caliendo is out and in is Rob Riggle.
According to USA Today, FOX producer Chris Rizzi said the show needs something fresh. “Nothing against Frank, we love Frank. But it’s been nine years. We wanted something fresh. Rob is on the edge of becoming a huge star. We wanted to help him. And that helps our show too. Now, everybody just knows him as that guy in that movie.”
That movie, was 21 Jump Street. Well, not everyone knows him from that movie. I don’t watch a lot of movies, and that particular one was not on my radar. Riggle also appeared in the instant classic, The Hangover, as the cop who allowed a kid to tase an adult.
There has been no direct role for Riggle announced by FOX as of yet. He admits he does not do impersonations so what role he’ll fill on the show has not actually been released.
Riggle spent eight years as a helicopter pilot for the Marine Corps and is currently a lieutenant colonel in the reserves. Change is inevitable, but I will miss Frank and his impersonations this season. I think a lot of us also miss Jillian giving the weather forecasts as well.
