NFL teams have until 9 p.m. this evening to trim their rosters to 53 players. Hundreds of players will be released this afternoon but could the Miami Dolphins be looking at adding a wide receiver via trade? Miami has struggled this preseason to find a legitimate number one receiver. This week Miami worked out a trio of receivers.
Miami brought in veteran Donte Stallworth who was released by the New England Patriots earlier this week. The Dolphins also have worked out Mike Sims-Walker. Sims-Walker has generated just modest interest from teams this offseason. Miami also worked out Brian Tyms formerly of the San Francisco 49ers. Jabar Gaffney has been rumored to be working out for Miami tomorrow, Gaffney was released by the Patriots earlier this week.
One of these players could be signed, but the club could be looking to add a receiver that the head coach is very familiar with, Green Bay Packers WR James Jones. Jones has been rumored to be available through trade this offseason and Miami has the ammunition to pull off a trade. The Dolphins have 10 selections in the upcoming 2013 NFL Draft. Miami has a draft selection in every round, but have additional picks in the second, third and seventh rounds.
Jones recorded 38 receptions for 635 yards and seven scores last season. Rookie head coach Joe Philbin knows Jones well from his time in Green Bay.
If Jones is acquired by Miami, his fantasy value should increase as he would likely immediately become the number one receiver for the Dolphins.
