The London 2012 Olympics have concluded and while the ceremonies surrounding the opening and closing of the games surrounded English music history, one legendary musician was left out. Elton John. There seems to have been a rift between the producers of the Olympics and John according to British media.
Readers here on Thepigskinreport.com have been made aware of the fact I would would like to see Willie Nelson perform at the halftime show of the Super Bowl. I have provided contact numbers for the league office but I have another offer.
Sir Elton John was shunned in his native country during the Olympics, why not get Elton to play this season during the Super Bowl halftime show, along with Willie Nelson of course. The pair of prolific song writers record albums and perform concerts with partners all the time. Why not team up two legendary performers for an actual high grade half time show?
John has been embroiled in a feud with Madonna in recent months, and called her out before her performance at the Super Bowl last year. The legendary performer said he’s never seen a good halftime performance at the Super Bowl. I’d have to agree.
Last year, he appeared in a Pepsi advertisement during the big game but issued some advice to Madonna, who would be performing at the half. “Make sure you lip-sync good.”
John was shunned by his home country on their biggest stage, why can’t the US reach out to him for this country’s biggest stage, the Super Bowl? He is currently feuding with the last performer at the Super Bowl, he could show up and blow Madonna out of the water, backing up his recent remarks.
I saw Elton John this spring in a small venue, he still has it. He might be 65, but he is a consummate performer. He would be a great selection to play at the halftime of this year’s Super Bowl. As long as he gets to sing a few songs with Willie Nelson.

Through my in-house UK sources Sir Elton (KBE,Hon Dmus,Hon RAM) was very heavily involved in the planning et al of Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubillee (60years as Queen). He performed a live several hour concert before a massive crowd on a specially built stage at Buckingham Palace constructed for the event. As this was nationally televised in Great Britain I can assure you he was not shunned in any fashion. This is only the 2nd time in history a sitting Monarch has reached the 60 year plateau. The Diamond jubillee held far more esteem for Sir Elton than an event that has not happened in the UK since 1948. While I agree his Superbowl appearance would be awesome I must add that any disagreements Sir Elton has with his fellow performers is only that. His high honors (Knighthood) and esteem within the UK Royalty are indicative of his continuing popularity. And regarding halftime shows…I am a football fan..The half time show is a perfect time to go take a dump.
Bobo,
Yes. I understand he was involved in the Queen’s Jubilee, that concert would have been something to see. However, not one second of one Elton John song was played at either the opening or closing ceremonies of the Olympics. I find that very strange.
That would be something. And maybe, with Willie, Elton could even do some of his old stuff from “Tumbleweed Connection”. Showing people what music REALLY is about. They could do a great show, completely without ass wiggling. Wow.
