As was earlier reported, Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner was arrested and charged with DUI and speeding following Monday Night Football. Gwinnett County Cpl. Edwin Ritter told NFL.com that Turner¬†was bonded out of Gwinnett County Jail at 5 a.m. Bond for the DUI charge was set at $2006 and bond for the speeding charge was placed at $173. Turner was arrested “around 2 a.m.,” Ritter said, but police could not provide any other details until the incident report is ready.

Turner, 30, was arrested after a Falcons’ win, although he has hardly resembled the same running back as he has years past. he seems to lack the same speed and elusiveness that made him a household name for fantasy football owners for the past few years.

And add in his off the field problem, which is never a good thing when it comes to the discipline of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Turner may be reaching the end of his fantasy football relevance. Because of those contributing factors, it may be time for the Falcons and fantasy owners to start paying attention to Jacquizz Rodgers.

In his first two games in the 2012 NFL season, Turner has 28 carries for just 74 yards. he did score a touchdown in Atlanta’s win over the Denver Broncos last night from the 1 yard line, but it took him three chances to finally get over the goal line. His yards per carry average is down and, if he is no longer going to receive 300+ carries per season, his value was going to plummet any way due to the fact that he is not a threat to catch passes out of the Falcons’ backfield.

That brings us to Rodgers.

It was expected that he was going to be a bigger part of Atlanta’s offense this season as they switch to a more pass first oriented attack. Rodgers is far more explosive and is a much better receiver. So far, he has done very little. Against the Kansas City Chiefs in the season opening win, Rodgers received 7 carries and posted just 22 yards. He also caught 2 passes for 13 yards.

In last night’s win, Rodgers did even less. He racked up 3 yards on just 3 carries without catching a pass.

Still, going forward, Rodgers is expected to play a larger role with the Dirty Birds. And if Turner is forced to miss any time, he becomes a must have for fantasy football owners in this exciting offense.
