The Buffalo Bills finally broke their streak of losing road games, but the victory came at quite a price. RB CJ Spiller went down in the first half with what appeared to be a broken collarbone. Spiller was carted off the field while holding his left arm motionless while pressed against his chest. Despite initial reports, Spiller did not suffer any broken bones, and will undergo an MRI on Monday.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that his sources tell him that Spiller has sustained a sprained left shoulder. Schefter says that doctor’s do not expect Spiller to miss more than one week at this point.
The injury will now leave the Bills seriously depleted at the running back position. RB Fred Jackson is still not expected back for at least a week, possibly two. Spiller will miss at least one week as well. Tashard Choice looks to be the starter moving forward at this point. Choice logged 91 yards on 20 carries while replacing Spiller on Sunday.
Fantasy implications- Spiller has been highly productive the last few weeks in Jackson’s absence. However, he was likely a late round pick in your draft, or perhaps even a waiver wire pickup. You’ll likely have other options next week. If you are in serious need of a back though, Choice will be on waivers this week. Be careful, the Bills play the New England Patriots next week, and they’ve been stingy against the run early on this season.
