Each of the 32 NFL franchises had to trim their rosters by 9 p.m. Friday evening in order to reach the league imposed 53-man roster limit. The Carolina Panthers announced their roster moves this evening. Showing that the Panthers had a solid draft class in 2012, all seven of their draft selections made the final 53-man roster.

Veteran S Reggie Smith was released and as a vested veteran, is now free to immediately sign with another club and does not have to go through the waiver wire process.

The Carolina Panthers waived 21 players.Carolina will enter the regular season with three running backs on the roster. DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart and Mike Tolbert after waiving Tauren Poole and Armond Smith.

The Panthers can start assembling their eight man practice squad at noon Saturday, September 1.
