The issue surrounding the use of replacement referees is on full display this evening in the Denver Broncos at Atlanta Falcons game. The league might have been able to hide the same issues and bad calls by replacement referees in regional Sunday afternoon broadcasts, but not any longer. Tonight’s Monday Night Football game is a disaster. The NFL needs to end the referee lockout this week.
The officiating in tonight’s contest is horrible. The first quarter has taken over 1 hour to complete and the officials seem to not understand the rule book. I was giving the replacement referees the benefit of the doubt in Week One, but in front of a national audience, this has been an embarrassment.
Commentator Jon Gruden has stated that this is a painful game to watch. Roger Goodell should be embarrassed. The owners should be ashamed of this product, especially while this debacle is being showcased on the NFL’s center stage and crown jewel, Monday Night Football.
The replacement officials have lost control of the game and appear to be totally confused. This was going to be another national game, showcasing one of the league’s favorite player, QB Peyton Manning. Instead, Manning’s three first quarter interceptions have been overshadowed by a referee crew which have no idea what they are doing. This is no longer defensible.
