According to a source which told the Associated Press, and now being reported by Boston.com, Beyonce will be announced tomorrow as this year’s Super Bowl halftime show. The 31-year old performer is the winner of 16 Grammy Awards. The paper speculates that Beyonce could be joined on stage with her husband Jay-Z and former bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.

Longtime readers of thepigskinreport.com know that I’ve been very critical of recent halftime shows and actually tried to start a movement to get Willie Nelson named as this year’s halftime performer, possibly being joined by Alison Krauss and Union Station with Toby Keith. I guess that idea goes out the window with this announcement set for tomorrow.

I guess fans get get prepared for yet another lackluster halftime show filled with lip-synched music and underachieving performances.

This year, the Super Bowl returns to the city of New Orleans and the halftime show will be sponsored by Pepsi for the first time since 2007. Beyonce has performed at the Super Bowl once before, signing the national anthem in 2004 when the Super Bowl was in Houston and featured a game between the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers.
