The San Francisco 49ers, fresh off a 34-0 beating of the New York Giants are returning home to find yet another offensive weapon returning to the field. RB Brandon Jacobs will be returning to the field and will likely start cutting into Frank Gore’s carries each game. Jacobs has been out of the lineup after suffering a knee injury in the preseason and will be returning to the field for the first time this regular season.
Jacobs was seen on the practice field running 60-yard sprints at full speed according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He told reporters after practice, “I’m ready to play, it’s all gone now.”
The paper suggests that Jacobs could become an integral part of the Niners short yardage run game, helping to convert third downs. San Francisco is currently ranked 22nd in the NFL on third down conversions.Overall, the Niners are currently ranked third in the league in rushing offense, averaging 167 yards per game. Veteran RB Frank Gore has rushed for 326 yards and three scores in the Niners first four games.
The addition of Jacobs back to the lineup will be beneficial for Gore, reducing the number of carries he receives on the back half of the season, keeping him fresher for the playoffs. Coming into this season, Gore had only played a complete 16-game season twice in his seven year career.
Look for a big fantasy week from Niners running backs. They will be hosting the Buffalo Bills, a team which yielded 243 yards on the ground to the New England Patriots last week at home.
