Fantasy Football owners are forced to watch some of the big name players on their team struggle through nagging injuries in the 2012 NFL season, with none more aggravating than the groin injury suffered by Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings. He has been more or less out since the opening weekend, and it may now appear that he could have a sports hernia. Jennings is not expected to play in Week 8 or 9 for the Packers, and may be held out past or beyond Green Bay’s bye week in Week 10.
The same may hold true for Washington redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon, who has been sidelined with a foot injury, also since the first game of the season. He came back – like Jennings – for a game or so – but was not the same player and could not remain on the field. He may also be out for a few more weeks, at least, and is now said to have a plantar plate tear in his foot. Garcon may also be held out until at least after the Redskins’ Week 10 bye.
But not all the news is bad when it comes to wide receivers, as Danny Amendola appears closer toward returning to the St. Louis Rams. This may be equally as surprising as Jennings and Garcon still being hampered by their injuries, as many feared Amendola could miss the rest of the season after he sustained a separation of the SC joint in his shoulder. His injury was once reported as being life threatening, due to what could have happened with his collarbone. Amendola is not expected to play when the Rams face the New England Patriots this week in London, but he could return after the team’s Week 9 bye.
As for other key injuries this week, Jimmy Graham is hoping that he can play when the New Orleans Saints take on the Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football, but he will still likely be listed as questionable. He could come down to a game time decision.
As for an injury that should not come down to kickoff, the Dallas Cowboys are expected to start Felix Jones on Sunday against the New York Giants. DeMarco Murray will probably miss at least one more week of action, although Jones also enters the game on Sunday a bit dinged up for Dallas.
Maurice Jones-Drew has already been ruled out for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Week 8 contest against the Packers, as Rashad Jennings will get the start while MJD is sidelined with a foot injury. The Jaguars expect him to miss at least a few games going forward.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are not exactly sure what will take place in their backfield this weekend when they take on the Redskins, although Jonathan Dwyer appears most likely to get the starting nod. Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman may be held out of action once again, especially after considering how well Dwyer played in their absence last Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals in a huge AFC North victory.
Also, Ahmad Bradshaw and Trent Richardson have not been practicing as much for the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns, although both could suit up this weekend.
