We all love seeing polls in professional sports, especially ones in which the players vote. Sports Illustrated released the results of a poll taken that asked 180 current NFL players to say who is the most overrated player in the league today. They looked no further than the New York Jets. Actually, the top two most overrated players are from the Jets. In fact, according to these players, the more overrated players are both Jets quarterbacks.

Tim Tebow was voted as the most overrated player in the NFL today by the players polled by Sports Illustrated, and it wasn’t even close. The players voted Tebow as the most overrated player with a whopping 34 percent of the results. It may seem strange for a back up player to receive such an overwhelming percentage of the vote but, in Tebow’s case, it is understandable. No player seems to receive as much attention as Tebow, regardless of whether or not he is the team’s starting quarterback.

Sanchez comes in as the second most overrated players, according to the players in this poll, although he was far down the list in terms of percentage. While Tebow ran away with the honor – or lack thereof – Sanchez finished second behind him with 8 percent of the vote. His poor decision making skills and deplorable completion percentage clearly played a part in the results, although I’m really not sure that many people outside of New York really ever expect that much from Sanchez in the first place.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo checks in tied with Sanchez, also earning 8 percent of the vote. This makes perfect sense, as the players agree with what I have been saying for years. Romo has regressed once again this season, and he is clearly one of the most overrated players in the game today and in recent memory. What has he done, at least on the field?

In fourth place is another player for whom I have even less respect for than any other player on this or any list, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, Michael Vick. With Vick earning 4 percent of the vote, it proves that a player cannot have one huge season and fall back on those laurels the rest of his career. Of course with me, I have no respect for Vick as a person. It has much less to do with what he has done on the gridiron.

Finally, the fifth most overrated player in the opinion of these players is Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens. As the only non quarterback on this list, I know of many people who still do not want to come up against the Ravens’ linebacker. This has to be the most surprising player on this list, and it is not a close contest. I could think of far more players of whom I would rank ahead of Lewis. Not even close.

Ndamukong Suh of the Detroit Lions, perhaps. Or what about Chris Johnson of the Tennessee Titans, at least up until two or three weeks ago. He should get some votes for his contract alone!

Who would make your list as some of the most overrated players in the NFL today?
