The Chicago Bears will take on the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night in a game featuring two teams with quarterbacks which suffered concussions last week. While the Bears have ruled QB Jay Cutler out for week 11, replacing him with veteran Jason Campbell, the San Francisco 49ers appear poised to have Alex Smith under center on Sunday. On Friday, Smith practiced in non-contact drills for the third consecutive day.

Smith has been cleared by an independent neurologist and will be monitored for the remainder of the week leading up to the Niners Monday night matchup against the Bears. Smith will have to complete a follow-up visit on Sunday before being officially allowed to play on Monday night. In case Smith is not allowed to play, second-year quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been taking reps with the first team this week.

Fantasy Implications– News of whether or not Smith will start on Monday night might not be known until after the early games on Sunday get underway. Even if Smith gets the starting nod, this is not a favorable matchup for Smith against the opportunistic Chicago defense. I would be looking at starting your backup quarterback this week or scanning who is available on the waiver wire. Actually, I believe rookie Nick Foles might post stronger numbers this week against the Washington Redskins than Smith posts against the Bears if he plays.
