The NFL prepares to start the second half of their season this afternoon and it’s time to look at week 10 picks and predictions against the spread. This week features some divisional games which can help some teams create distance in their division and increase their post season chances. Tonight’s Sunday night game features what can be considered the marquee matchup of the weekend with the Houston Texans visiting the Chicago Bears.

Ironically, the Bears game is perhaps the only game this weekend which weather could play a role. With a cold front approaching from the West, the Chicago area will see widespread showers this evening with temperatures turning sharply colder overnight. The Windy City will be just that, windy with winds from the south at 20-30 mph with higher gusts possible.

There is also a chance of rain in the Settle area this afternoon. However, spoke with Morgan Palmer of KIRO this week and he believes that the rain will hold off until after the end of the Seahawks and Jets game.

NFL Week 10 Picks and Predictions ATS

Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots -13 53 O/U

The Bills have been one of the most disappointing teams this season and come into this game losing four of their last five games. The Patriots throttled the Bills in Buffalo in week four, 52-28. New England enters this game with 14 players listed as questionable but don’t let that fool you. The Patriots roll 34-20

New York Giants at Cincinnati Bengals +4 49

The Giants got bumped at home by the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, but no worries here. The Giants are the best road team in the NFL. The Bengals have lost four straight and are vulnerable right now. Today is Vicor Cruz’s birthday and I wonder if he’ll get a slice of birthday cake with his salsa dance. Giants win 31-20

San Diego Chargers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers -3 47

The Buccaneers are playing some of their best offensive football in their franchise history. Rookie RB Doug Martin is coming off a record setting 251 yard performance on the road last week. Look for the win streak to continue for the Buccaneers. Tampa Bay 31-28

Denver Broncos at Carolina Panthers +4 47

The Panthers found a way to get back into the win column last week but this week, they have to take on the red hot Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning. Manning will have a big day, throwing for 300+ yards and three touchdowns. Denver wins 34-20

Tennessee Titans At Miami Dolphins -6 45

Jake Locker finally gets back on the field this week. However, he gets a start on the road against the third best run defense in the league. The only hope for the Titans is if Locker can shake the rust off early and he can beat the Dolphins with his arm. Dolphins win 23-16

Oakland Raiders at Baltimore Ravens -7.5 47.5

The Oakland Raiders limp into Baltimore without RB Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson along with DE Richard Seymour. Ravens QB Joe Flacco should have plenty of time in the pocket this afternoon with Oakland only recording 11 sacks this season. The Raiders are also dealing with the trajic loss of defensive line coach Terrell Williams four-year old son. Baltimore wins 27-19

Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints +2.5

If the New Orleans Saints have any chance of keeping their playoff chances alive, they need to reel off a bunch of wins and that starts this afternoon. Atlanta has won just twice in New Orleans in the last ten seasons. Saints QB Drew Brees has faced the Falcons 12 times with the Saints winning 10 of those contests while throwing 26 touchdowns to just 11 interceptions. Saints keep their slim playoff hopes alive this afternoon 34-27

Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings +3 46

Second-year QB Christian Ponder started the season on fire but has cooled off significantly since then in recent weeks. Ponder is struggling to get the ball down the field and in two of his last three games has average just 2.86 and 3.41 yards per attempt. That will simply not get it done in the NFL. Worse news for Ponder, he will be without his leading receiver Percy Harvin. Detroit seems to have re-grouped in recent weeks and comes away with a win this afternoon. Detroit 34-10

New York Jets at Seattle Seahawks -6 39

The Seahawks have not lost at home this season and that win streak should continue today against the New York Jets, a team which has struggled all season to find it’s identity. The 12th man rises up again this afternoon. Seattle 20-13

Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles +2.5

Neither of these teams are playing good football currently. The Cowboys are losers of four of the last five and the Eagles are basically five points away from being winless on the season. The Philadelphia offensive line has been horrible this season and LB DeMarcus Ware could be poised for a monster afternoon. Dallas 24-19

St Louis Rams at San Francisco 49ers -12.5 38.5

Just like divisional foe Seattle, the Rams are perfect at home but have yet to record a win on the road. San Francisco is coming off their bye week and could be looking ahead to their matchup with the Chicago Bears next week. I think Jim Harbaugh has the 49ers prepared to play at home this afternoon. San Francisco 27-16

Houston Texans at Chicago Bears -1.5 39.5

This is going to be an old fashioned knock-down, drag-out fight played in windy and rainy conditions on a muddy, sloppy field. If you love defense, this game is going to be for you. The Bears opportunistic defense has been record setting this season but the Bears level of competition has been questioned so far this season as the Bears have no victories over teams with a winning record. Houston 19-17
