The latest results of the Discover Fan Loyalty Poll asked the question if college football fans would rather receive gifts this Holiday season as per usual, or if they would forego receiving presents in order to watch their favorite team win the BCS Championship. In a very close vote, 46 percent of fans opted for presents, while 42 percent said they would trade in all of their Holiday gifts in order to witness their favorite team hoist the crystal ball trophy after winning the BCS Championship. But while only the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Alabama Crimson Tide can play for the BCS Championship, that does not mean that we should ignore other exciting bowl games this season, including the New Mexico Bowl between the Arizona Wildcats and the Nevada Wolfpack.
The Wildcats will enter this game as a 10 point favorite, having come out of the Pac 12 conference. The Wolfpack, members of the Mountain West Conference, will be the heavy underdogs. Both teams can put points on the board in a hurry, however, as the Wildcats and Wolfpack both finished in the top 20 in the nation in terms of points scored per game in 2012.
Arizona will feature the country’s best rusher in Ka’Deem Carey, who led the nation with 1,757 yards on the ground to go along with 17 rushing touchdowns. Nevada will counter with Stefphon Jefferson, who was not too shabby himself in 2012, running for 1,703 yards and 22 touchdowns. Both teams expect to rely on their strong ground and pound attacks. With neither defense able to stop their opponents this season, both rushers should have solid games.
Before we take a further look into this game, take a look at the latest results from the Discover Fan Loyalty Poll. College football fans across the country were not only asked whether they would rather receive gifts this Holiday season or watch their favorite team win this year’s BCS Championship, but they were also asked which team had the best chance to win the national championship, as well as which ones were truly the best in the country. After checking out the following infograph with the complete results, make sure to let us know how you feel. Who is the best team in 2012? Who will win this year’s BCS Championship Game? Would you trade in all of your gifts for the chance to watch your favorite team hoist the crystal ball trophy after winning the BCS Championship Game?
If you are someone who makes their bowl game selections based on signature wins, then Arizona is the choice in this game. The Wildcats defeated the Oklahoma State Cowboys and USC Trojans, and narrowly missed knocking off the Oregon State Beavers, Arizona Wildcats and Stanford Cardinal.
The Wolfpack did not face the same caliber of teams, coming out of the MWC this season. In fact, they did not defeat one game who is going to a bowl game this season. The only bowl teams that Nevada faced in 2012 were the Air Force Falcons, Fresno State Bulldogs and Boise State Broncos. The Wolfpack lost all three games, with the first two games resulting in blowouts.
Arizona is a 10 point favorite for a reason. Oddsmakers expect them to fully come out and drop some points on Nevada, as the Over/Under line has been set at 75 points. This game is expected to be a high scoring affair, with Arizona favored to come out on top in the end.
