The NFL Network is reporting currently that the Chicago Bears have fired head coach Lovie Smith. The Bears failed to reach the post-season for the second consecutive season. The Bears fell into another late season collapse, failing to advance to the playoffs. The Bears have missed the playoffs for the fifth time in six seasons.Since advancing to the playoffs in 2006, the Bears have won the NFC North just once.Chicago defeated the Detroit Lions on Sunday but the Minnesota Vikings victory eliminated them from playoff consideration. This move comes as no surprise with the Bears missing the playoffs.

Last season, the Bears changed their general manager and replaced Mike Martz with Mike Tice as the teams offensive coordinator. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Bears are already asking other teams for permission to interview coaching assistants.

Smith has been the head coach of the Chicago Bears for nine seasons, compiling a 81-63 overall record.Smith joined Romeo Crennel and Andy Reid as coaches which have been officially fired on what is known as Black Monday.
