Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe suffered two broken ribs in his team’s loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. One internet report this evening suggests that the soon to be free agent wide receiver will be placed on season ending injured reserve. ProfootballTalk.com cites a source saying that Bowe is done for the last three games of the season.
Bowe was playing under the franchise tag this season for the Chiefs. After desiring a long-term deal, the Chiefs slapped the franchise designation on Bowe for this season. Coming off back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons, Bowe has struggled this season, recording just 801 yards and only three touchdowns. His drop in production cannot be placed squarely on his shoulders however. The quarterback play in Kansas City this season has been dreadful and the Chiefs have been one of the worst teams in the NFL during the 2012 campaign.
Bowe was the subject of much speculation at the NFL Trade Deadline with many teams eying a potential playoff run in need of a wide receiver. The sometimes controversial receiver was not moved and should become a hot commodity in free agency this offseason.
Dwayne Bowe will turn 29 at the start of the 2013 NFL season.
