The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed 17 players on the injured reserve list this season and this week, added another three rounding the figure out at an even 20. The team had already lost WR Laurent Robinson and QB Blaine Gabbert with season ending injuries and now the team has moved WR Cecil Shorts, RB Rashad Jennings and LB Greg Jones onto the season ending injured reserve list.

Robinson, a free agent acquisition at wide receiver, was placed on the injured reserve list after suffering a concussion on November 18th against the Houston Texans. Gabbert suffered a should injury in the same game and was replaced by Chad Henne in the lineup. Henne has been a spark to the otherwise lackluster Jacksonville offense under Gabbert’s leadership.

Cecil Shorts has been a terrific find for the Jaguars. Drafted in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft, Shorts has been a steady receiver this season, nearly reaching 1,000 yards receiving and scoring seven touchdowns. Shorts suffered the second concussion of the month and team made the decision to sit him for the last game of the season. In his place, the Jaguars added rookie WR Jerrell Jackson from the team’s practice squad.

Rashad Jennings suffered a shoulder injury and has struggled through what can be considered a disappointing season for Jacksonville this year. Jennings was lost for the 2011 season due to injury, but could have really had a chance to highlight his abilities in the wake of the injury suffered by RB Maurice Jones-Drew. Jennings was only able to post 283 yards and a meager 2.8 yards per carry average. He is slated for free agency at the end of the season.
