The Buffalo Bills hired Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone over the weekend after he interviewed twice with the Cleveland Browns. Marrone has acted quickly to assemble a coaching staff. Yesterday, the Bills added Nate Hackett as the team’s offensive coordinator. The team announced this morning that they have added a defensive coordinator, former New York Jets coordinator, Mike Pettine.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen announced the move this morning on Twitter. “As expected, the Bills have hired Mike Pettine as defensive coordinator. Pettine had been with Jets previous four seasons.” The Jets are expected to replace Pettine with current defensive backs coach Dennis Thurman.

Pettine joined the NFL coaching ranks in 2002 with the Baltimore Ravens, serving as a coaches assistant. In 2004, he was elevated to assistant defensive line coach. Pettine served as the Ravens linebackers coach from 2005-2008 before becoming the New York Jets defensive coordinator in 2009.
