RB Felix Jones will be an unrestricted free agent this season, but don’t look for him to receive any contract offer from the Dallas Cowboys. Jones possesses superb speed, but has struggled to stay healthy throughout the course of his career. Jones failed to live up to expectations that surrounded him when he was drafted in the first-round of the 2008 NFL Draft, selected 22nd overall.
ESPN Dallas suggests that the Dallas Cowboys will now move on from Jones, moving Lance Dunbar and Phillip Tanner into the back up roles behind DeMarco Murray. The site also suggests that the Cowboys might move towards selecting another running back in the 2013 NFL Draft.
After posting an impressive 5.9 yards per carry average, Jones rushed for just 3.6 yards per carry in 2012. He should receive interest from other teams on the free agent market given his age, (25) and his versatility. In 2010, Jones recorded 48 receptions for 450 yards. Jones will fill the role of a change of pace back for another team in 2013.
