In a move that most educated NFL football fans already saw coming, reports surfaced out of the NFL Combine that the Atlanta Falcons will likely release RB Michael Turner. For some reason, Twitter exploded after these reports surfaced, but I have to question exactly why? Have any of these people making comments on Twitter seen Turner play recently? ESPN’s Adam Schefter made the report this morning and for some reason, it took many by surprise on Twitter.

He is not the same back that rushed for nearly 1,700 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2008. He is old, slow and failed to reach the 1,000-yard mark for Atlanta this year for the first time in a 16-game season since joining the Falcons. He also posted the lowest yard per carry average of his career.

It’s time for Falcons fans and the team to move on. Running backs are now easily replaceable in the NFL. He was a stud running back once he found his way out of San Diego, but at 31, his career is not worth his salary in 2013. Turner is not worth a reported $6.9 million next season. His skills are eroding and it’s time for the Falcons to move on. He might return to Atlanta, but for a much diminished number than nearly $7 million.
