New York Jets RB Shonn Greene is slated to hit the free agent market next month and seems to be generating some interest around the league. The NFL Network is reporting that Greene could be generating interest from the Denver Broncos and the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons are expected to release veteran running back Michael Turner due to his confiscatory salary cap number while the Broncos have stated that they are in the market for another running back.

I don’t know how much of an upgrade Greene would be at either location. He does not possess great blocking skills so he might not be the back the Broncos want with Peyton Manning under center.

Greene is younger than Turner but they have similar running styles. Greene lacks burst, evidenced by the fact that he has never had a run over 36 yards in his career. Even as slow as Turner looked at times in the last two seasons, he had an 81-yard run in 2011 and a 43-yard run in 2012. Greene also does not excel at catching the football out of the backfield, a facet of the Falcons offense that is likely to expand in 2013.

I’d fully expect Greene to sign on with a team to fill the role of a goal line back moving forward.
