Forbes magazine released a poll of the top 10 most disliked athletes in sports. Two athletes which have received copious amounts of news coverage in the past month top the list, Lance Armstrong and LB Manti Te’o. Armstrong has always been a controversial figure in the sporting world but his recent admission of doping, placed him at the top of the list with just a 15% appeal rating.
Coming in right behind him, also at 15% is Notre Dame’s LB Manti Te’o. Te’o was the victim of an online hoax, reportedly falling in love with a woman that never existed. Te’o's image suffered the biggest drop of any athlete in the top-10. His appeal rating plummeted from 88% to 15.
Tiger Woods remains on the list coming in at 19% in third place.
In fourth place comes the first NFL player on this list, Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler. Cutler continues to struggle with an image issue during his career, joining the list with a 21% appeal ranking.
Two other NFL players made the Forbes list this season and they, ironically, are both quarterbacks as well.
Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick has never really regained his popularity after his dog fighting charges and has typically made this fan generated list each year Forbes has conducted it since his return to the NFL. He ranks seventh.
Rounding out the top-10 lest is Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo. This makes sense as the Cowboys are one of the most popular teams in the NFL. Romo, fairly or not, receives a lot of the blame for the Dallas Cowboys struggles on the field.
