According to the Tampa Tribune, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have free agent TE Martellus Bennett on their radar this March when the period begins. The Buccaneers need a tight end as Dallas Clark is a free agent and they could definitely get younger at that position. However, Roy Cummings of the Tribune wrote last month, that the Buccaneers would like Clark to return for one more season.
In a Q&A column appearing in the Tribune, Tampa could have their eye on Bennett in order to team him up with his brother Michael, who has played for the Buccaneers but is a free agent. The two brothers have stated that they’d like to play on the same team.
Clark will turn 34 this June. Bennett just turned 26. Bennett has a bigger frame at 6-foot-6-inches, 265 pounds. He recorded 55 receptions for 626 yards and five scores this season versus 47 receptions for 435 yards and four scores for Clark. Bennett also have seven plays for 20 or more yards last season.
Another player that the Buccaneers should look at, if he becomes available, is Jared Cook from the Tennessee Titans. The Titans are not utilizing Cook’s athletic talents properly. There does however seem to be some disagreement whether or not the Titans will place the franchise tag on the tight end. If he slips away in free agency, he would be a good fit for the Buccaneers next season.
