Over the course of the last several years, there has been a movement to change the name of the Washington Redskins, as to not offend a sector of the nation of American Indians. Yes, I’ve used the politically incorrect term, American Indians. This afternoon, Mike Florio, who is now a shill for NBC Sports, penned a column about how the momentum is building for a name change of the Redskins. Really.
The Mayor of DC urged a name change as well last month. The Redskins/Daniel Snyder unfriendly paper, The Washington City Paper stopped referring to the Redskins by their team name.
Florio sold out his site, Profootballtalk.com to NBC Sports, just as the Weather Channel and Weather Underground sold out to NBC in order to further their Green Agenda, Climate Change crap.
Florio, a former attorney, and the owner of some of the most repulsive hair on television scribed this, “The NFL franchise assigned to Washington, D.C., has a name that is both racist and offensive. Most Americans have become desensitized to that fact. But it is a fact.” It’s a fact. Seriously?
The diminutive host of the website believes that Robert Griffin III should step in and demand that the Redskins make a name change. Sorry Mr. Florio, I guarantee that RG III’s agent is telling him to stay right out of this debate and not weigh into your desired politically correct debate. You can pen all the articles you want about “hoping” RGIII does the right thing, but in reality, and in the marketing realm, Mr. Griffin will never touch this issue, and I don’t blame him.
Sorry that you now all of a sudden have an issue with the Redskins name. I don’t remember you railing about this issue a decade ago on your website when the Redskins were still the Redskins, and you were struggling to get your site up and really rolling. Welcome to the NBC world. March along lockstep with what corporate tells you. Just keep cashing those checks while trying to tell us what we should believe.
I’m not shocked that an NBC based site, regardless of subject, would be wrapped up in total political correctness.
