Despite early reports that S Louis Delmas would sign with the San Francisco 49ers, it now appears that the safety will remain a member of the Detroit Lions after inking a two-year deal worth $9.46 million as according to Profootballtalk.com Friday night.
Delmas is a hard hitting safety but has struggled over his career to stay healthy. He has missed a total of 13 games in the last two seasons and has undergone surgery on each knee. This move comes on the heels of the Lions signing free agent safety Glover Quin to a five-year deal in order to try to shore up a porous secondary. Detroit also re-signed CB Chris Houston last week.
Delmas is expected to play the free safety position with Quin lining up at strong safety. The duo could form a formidable pair if they are both able to remain healthy for the entire season.
For his career, Delmas has three sacks, two forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and 267 total tackles.
