In a move announced by Jason LaCanfora Tuesday night, the Oakland Raiders will release defensive tackle Tommy Kelly. The 32-year old defensive lineman is coming off a sub-par 2012 season where he recorded just 25 tackles and 1.5 sacks. A big bdoy coming in at 6-foot6 325 pounds, LaCanfora doesn’t expect him to last long on the free agent market.
According to LaCanfora on twitter, “The Raiders will release veteran DL Tommy Kelly Wednesday. Would expect him to draw some interest pretty quickly.”
Kelly can be a disruptive force on the inside. Between 2010 and 2011, he recorded 14.5 sacks along with 1010 tackles and two forced fumbles. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent and has spent his entire career with the Oakland Raiders. The move will free up just under $5 million in cap space for the Raiders and Kelly was slated to earn $6.5 million in 2013.
