In the continuing search to find a complimentary receiver for Calvin Johnson, a report on Tuesday suggests that the Detroit Lions have scheduled a visit with free agent wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey. Nate Burleson is slated to return after re-working his deal but he will be turning 32 prior to the start of the 2013 regular season. The Lions thought they had found a speedy threat in Titus Young, but his insane behavior led to his ultimate release. The Lions also have second-year receiver Ryan Broyles on the roster but he came with injury concerns and is now coming off a torn ACL injury.

Heyward-Bey is a former first-round pick and possesses great vertical speed but his career has yet to reach it’s potential. In 2011, DHB posted a career high 64 receptions for 975 yards and a 15.2 yard per catch average. He tailed off in 2012 with just 41 receptions for 606 yards and five touchdowns.

Playing opposite Johnson with his speed might be the situation he needs in order to jumpstart his career. He met with the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday.
