The Green Bay Packers have extended the contract of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, making him the highest paid player in the NFL. Well, for this week at least. The Baltimore Ravens gave that honor to quarterback Joe Flacco earlier this season but the Rodgers deal now eclipses his.

According to reports, the deal gives Rodgers $110 million in new money for the life of the contract, which runs through 2019. Between 2013 through 2015, Rodgers will earn $62.5 million according to sources at ESPN, which $40 million coming in the first year.

The Packers have been busy this offseason wrapping up some of their big name players. Last week the team agreed to a contract extension with linebacker Clay Matthews. Matthews’ deal makes him the league’s highest paid linebacker and he received a reported $31 million in guaranteed money.

Rodgers threw for 4,295 yards last season with 39 touchdowns and just 8 interceptions. In the last two seasons, Rodgers has accounted for 84 touchdowns and just 14 interceptions.
