Could newly retired soccer icon David Beckham be headed to the NFL? According to the Daily Mirror, the global superstar has been contact by an unnamed NFL franchise in hopes of working him out for the position of place kicker. Beckham, 38, recently took his swan song lap around the overseas soccer league as he retired as a player with the Manchester United team. Manchester United is owned by the Glazer family, the owners of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Beckham was a sensational soccer player and was known for his accuracy kicking the other football. The player known for his stunning appearance, ever changing hair styles and gorgeous wife, has not publicly commented on his plans as of yet and no try out appears looming on the horizon.
It would be hard to imagine that Beckham would be interested in joining the NFL at this point in his career. He is coming off a season where he earned $48 million last season, double what Tom Brady or Peyton Manning will earn this season. If he does agree to a try out, it won’t be about the money.
Beckham is a soccer purist, so I wouldn’t bank on seeing him in shoulder pads at age 38 during the 2013 season. Unless he’s really bored. It would be interesting to see what he could do with a real football though.
