Just days after learning that the Baltimore Ravens would be without tight end Dennis Pitta, the franchise moved quickly to add a veteran player for added depth at the position. Pitta underwent surgery for a dislocated and fractured hip and will be lost for the season. Ed Dickson moves into the top spot for the Ravens at the tight end spot but Baltimore added veteran Visanthe Shiancoe on Sunday.
This move should not raise the eyebrows of any fantasy owners. Shiancoe was on the roster of the New England Patriots last season for just four games. The last time the veteran played in an NFL contest was 2011 as a member of the Minnesota Vikings. For his career, Shiancoe has 243 receptions and 27 touchdowns.
Schiancoe had worked out for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week, but left town without a deal. Various media outlets are reporting the one-year deal is worth veteran’s league minimum.
