With just one week to go until the start of the 2013 NFL season, it’s time to hit the keyboard and make my picks for this coming NFL season. Everyone wants to anoint the Denver Broncos as the crown jewel of the AFC this coming season, but I have issues with making that move. Are they going to be a good team? Yes. A great team? There are too many questions on the defensive side of the ball. I really don’t see the Broncos running away with the AFC West as many pundits do.

Since he was hired, I’ve believed that head coach Andy Reid will turn the Kansas City Chiefs into this year’s team with the highest win differential. I could care less what the Eagles fans and Philadelphia media say about Reid, I feel he is a solid NFL head coach. He is entering Kansas City with playmakers on each side of the ball. I’m going as far as to crown the Chiefs as one of the wildcard teams in this year’s playoffs, challenging the Broncos the entire season.

San Diego. Is it over for QB Philip Rivers? He certainly has had many of his offensive weapons removed from him over the years. He now enters into a new coaching regime. I remain not sold on RB Ryan Mathews. This is not a team positioned to challenge for a playoff berth in 2013.

Matt Flynn. Terrelle Pryor. By week six of the regular season, Oakland Raiders fans will be pining for Carson Palmer. Perhaps the team plan this year is to tank the season and get the number one overall selection in 2014 and rebuild, (again) from there.
