Well, the injury situation surrounding the New England Patriots is getting a bit more interesting. On Monday, it was revealed that RB Shane Vereen has suffered a small bone break in his hand, but continued playing Sunday and would undergo surgery this afternoon. It was undetermined yesterday just how long Vereen would be out of the loop on the Patriots offense. As bad news for the Patriots continues this afternoon, Vereen is now reportedly been added to the PUP list and will not be able to practice with the team for the next six week.

Vereen will not be able to return to the roster and play in regular season games until week 11.

Many pundits had suggested Vereen’s fantasy value would skyrocket this season after the offseason issues surrounding TE Aaron Hernandez. His value was seen on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, but he now joins a long list of offensive players on the injury list.

The running back position for the Patriots has always been a difficult one to get a hold of from a fantasy aspect. Stevan Ridley, benched Sunday, has to be now at the forefront of the mix. Leon Washington could become an active player. LeGarrette Blount could also see his carries continue to increase each week. Brandon Bolden is still waiting in the wings.

It was a difficult offseason for the Patriots and the first week of the regular season hasn’t been any easier.

The Patriots have worked out several veterans on offense in the last few weeks, look for a few more to return after Thursday night’s game for yet another tryout if the offense struggles once again.
