It’s been a few seasons since we have had a Brett Favre story, and with Tim Tebow riding off into the sunset, so why not? Favre has dropped off the radar screen on the NFL world, and given the new, upstart 24 hour sports networks, I’m surprised that he hasn’t resurfaced as a commentator on one of them. His agent did manage to get his name back in the news this afternoon though.

Bus Cook, speaking to the New Horizons Credit Union-1st and 10 club, told attendees that Favre could play right now in the NFL- at age 43. Cook claims he is in the best shape of his career.

A quote from Cook– “”His arms look like a blacksmith’s arms. He rides a bike probably 30-50 miles a day. He runs four or five miles a day. He’s coaching at the high school and they’re undefeated. He loves it. His body fat is 7.5 percent and he weighs 225 pounds. He could play today, better than a lot of them out there today.”

Cook can comment, but I don’t even know where he would fit in the NFL right now. In the short time that he has been out of the league, the NFL has moved on. Look at the number of quarterbacks in the league that are first, second or very limited time third year starters. You have quarterbacks with under 30 starts in their career taking teams to the playoffs and even the Super Bowl.

Teams that are without a quarterback are positioning themselves to pick off the next great college sensation next year in the draft.

That’s great that Favre is in great physical shape, but he is not returning to the NFL. Not this year, or ever. Enjoy coaching high school ball, and hopefully the team can win a state championship. I’d suggest a few guest appearances on some cable football shows. I always found him to be entertaining and appreciated his style of play. But it’s over. Just in case that was a feeler put out there by his agent. Let’s see some Favre on tv talking football, not on the field.
