In light of RB David Wilson laying the ball on the ground twice in seven carries last night against the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Giants are reportedly going to work out a group of veteran backs on Tuesday. One of those players includes former Giants back Brandon Jacobs. Mike Garafolo suggests the move via Twitter.
“The Giants will work out RB’s tomorrow. The group will include Brandon Jacobs.” Jason LaCanfora is reporting that the Giants will also workout veteran back Willis McGahee on Tuesday among others. Beanie Wells might also be in the mix.
Jacobs, 31, was a member of the San Francisco 49ers last season before being ultimately released. He was a member of the New York Giants for the 2011 season when he rushed for 571 yards on 152 carries and scored seven touchdowns. He won’t be a long term answer as he lacks explosiveness, but might be a short term solution until Brown is able to return.
The turnover issues surrounding Wilson compound an issue at running back as the Giants await the return of Andre Brown who suffered a fractured leg in the preseason. Jacobs does give the Giants the option of adding a player familiar with the team’s playbook but his signing will depend on what sort of shape he is in.
UPDATE: Jason LaCanfora is now reporting that Joe McKnight will be at the workout as well.
