The Pittsburgh Steelers will be taking on the Minnesota Vikings this afternoon in the first game this year of the NFL’s International Series. Both teams have gotten off to a disappointing start this season as neither team has yet to record a win. The Steelers have really struggled offensively this season, currently ranked 27th and 30th in rushing offense. If the Steelers lose to the Vikings this afternoon will Pittsburgh fire offensive coordinator Todd Haley.
Haley replaced Bruce Arians, who eventually joined the Indianapolis Colts last season prior to becoming the Arizona Cardinals head coach this season. Haley has reportedly had a chaotic relationship with QB Ben Roethlisberger during his time with the team.
On the NFL Network this morning, reporter Ian Rapoport suggested that Haley is facing a “crucial week” in determining his future with the team moving forward. If the Steelers suffer another loss, Pittsburgh could fire Haley as early as Monday with the Steelers heading into a bye week.
Although the Steelers are currently ranked 30th in rushing offense, they finally get the debut of rookie RB Le’Veon Bell in the lineup. Bell has been struggling with a foot injury suffered in the preseason and was drafted in order to give a much needed boost to the struggling Steelers rushing attack last year and at the start of this season.
Pittsburgh has a history of keeping stability at the head coaching position, so there is no need to think Mike Tomlin is on the hot seat. However, coordinators are fair game and with a loss today, Haley might be looking for work next week.
